Catchy Fish & More

Fish served aboard a boat moored on the Nile, on the Zamalek side.

Much of the appeal is the setting: a dining room aboard the Nile Maxim, moored along Zamalek, water underfoot and the far bank for a view. The cooking is that of a fish house, and the "& More" in the name covers the rest of the menu. What you book is a table on board; whether the boat goes out on a given evening is something you will have to ring and ask.

The extra bit

Come as the light goes: that is the hour when the river is worth what you are paying for it, and the gangway is easier to find before dark. For the table, WhatsApp is the usual channel in Egypt: a message before you come often works better than a call.

Know before you go

You reach it from Omar Al Khayam Street on the Zamalek corniche: look for a gangway rather than a shopfront, and "Nile Maxim" is the name to give a driver. Ask when you call whether cards are accepted — at this price it is usual, but usual is not certain. And a table on the Nile costs more than a table in a side street: part of the bill is the river.
