A dinner that moves: the Nile slides past, and the river is the main course.
A dahabiya is a Nile sailing boat: you board over on the Dokki side, you have dinner, and the boat sails while you eat. Cairo from the water is another city — the Corniche pulls away, the noise drops, the bridges pass overhead. On a dinner cruise the cooking comes second to the sailing: set your expectations on the river, not on the plate. What you are buying is an evening on the water, and that is the measure the price should be judged by.

Ask for the boarding time, not the departure time: the two are not the same, and a boat will not wait. If you get the choice, take the deck over the indoor room, and bring a layer — evenings on the water are cooler than on land, even in summer.
Know before you go
The boarding time is exactly the thing to confirm before you cross town: and a WhatsApp message often gets an answer sooner than a call. The boarding point is not necessarily the street address: ask which jetty. And on a fixed departure the cancellation terms are rarely generous — have them spelled out before you pay.
