El Horreya
A vast room with bare walls where tea and beer have been served at the same tables for decades.
€ Budget
White neon, wooden chairs, marble: nothing was decorated, and that is precisely the decor. The room is a social crossroads of chess players, office workers at the end of the day and neighbourhood regulars; one of the few places in Cairo where you can have a beer outside a hotel.
The extra bit
Service is by tray and on request: raise a hand, nobody will come and ask you.
Know before you go
Cash only. Alcohol is not served during Ramadan, and the room stays a café.
