Cairo has a dozen active galleries, often in old Zamalek flats or Downtown buildings. Openings are public and free, and it is the simplest way to meet the Egyptian art scene — far more so than through the museums.

Openings happen in the early evening, often Tuesday or Wednesday: that is when to drop by.
