Gingko serves sushi and fusion cooking at the Fairmont Nile City in Bulaq, inside the towers along the river. The clientele is the big-hotel crowd — residents, expatriates, working dinners — and the prices match: this is the top of the Cairo range, for cooking that is not the country's own. Bulaq is not a quarter you stroll in at night: you arrive by car, you eat, you leave.

If you are in Cairo for a week, this is not where to spend a dinner. Keep Gingko for a long stay, for the evening when sushi is genuinely what you want.
Know before you go
Cairo is not a coastal city: sushi here is a gamble, and an international hotel is where the gamble is smallest — which is part of what you pay for. When booking, ask which floor the room is on and whether it faces the river: the Nile City towers are on the Nile, but not all the tables are. Ask as well where to come in and where to leave the car: in a tower complex it is not always off the street. At this price, a WhatsApp message before you set out is worth the trouble.
