The bookshops of Talaat Harb

Downtown's Arabic bookshop windows, and the second-hand stalls on the pavement.

Budget

Around Talaat Harb square survive several historic bookshops and second-hand sellers who spread their books on the ground. You find cheap Arabic editions, old posters and magazines — one of the last bookshop districts in the Arab world.

The extra bit

The second-hand sellers also carry 1950s Egyptian film posters: the best souvenirs Downtown has.

Know before you go

Most stock is in Arabic: for foreign-language books, try Oum El Dounia or Diwan instead.
