The Qulaan mangroves
Mangroves standing in salt water, flamingos and a Bedouin village.
€ Budget
Inside Wadi el-Gemal park, the Qulaan mangroves form an ecosystem rare in Egypt: roots in the water, juvenile fish, migrating birds. The nearby Bedouin village offers tea and a little craft, and the place is seen in a morning.
The extra bit
Come early for the birds: from 10 am, the heat sends them into the branches.
Know before you go
Do not walk between the roots: they are fragile and serve as a nursery for reef fish.
