The Royal Mummies Hall

Twenty Egyptian sovereigns, moved in 2021 into a hall built for them.

€€ Mid-rangeUnmissable

Ramesses II, Seti I, Hatshepsut, Thutmose III: the royal mummies left Tahrir in a parade broadcast worldwide, for a dark, silent hall where each lies alone. The scenography does the opposite of a museum: it imposes quiet.

The extra bit

Go down to the mummies hall first, before the rest of the museum: that is where crowds build during the day.

Know before you go

Photography is banned in the hall and silence is requested — and enforced.
