The Railway Museum
The khedives' locomotives, including Ismail Pasha's gilded saloon carriage.
€ BudgetOff the beaten track
Egypt had Africa's first railway, and this museum inside Ramses station keeps its pieces: steam locomotives, models, and Ismail's state carriage. You enter through a station corridor, which puts most visitors off — and leaves the rooms empty.
The extra bit
Ask for the museum at the station ticket office: it is signposted only by a small plaque.
Know before you go
Frequent closures for works: call or have someone call before crossing town.
