The Royal Carriages Museum
The khedives' state carriages, reopened to the public after twenty years of restoration.
€ Budget
An 1893 building that housed the royal stables, and a collection of state carriages — including the one given by Napoleon III for the opening of the Suez Canal. Gold-embroidered saddles, harnesses and liveries tell of a court of which almost nothing else remains.
The extra bit
The museum is small and rarely busy: an hour is enough, and you are often alone.
Know before you go
Boulaq is a dense working-class district: take a taxi to the door rather than looking for it on foot.
