Old Quseir
An Ottoman port left intact between Hurghada and Marsa Alam.
€ BudgetOff the beaten track
Quseir was the port for pilgrims to Mecca and the spice trade: what remains is a restored Ottoman fort, whitewashed coral houses, a mosque and a seafront without a single resort. The only historic town on Egypt's Red Sea coast.
The extra bit
The fort holds a small museum on the pilgrim route: that is where the town explains itself.

140 km south of Hurghada: a stop on the road, or a quieter base than the resorts.
