Sinai · Nuweiba, South Sinai

Ras Shitan

Palm huts at the water's edge, facing the Saudi mountains.

Budget

A string of Bedouin camps between Nuweiba and Taba, where you sleep in a hut for a few pounds, feet in the Gulf of Aqaba. The reef starts five metres offshore, and the sun rises behind the mountains opposite.

The extra bit

Bring a light sleeping bag: gulf nights are cool and the huts have no windows.

Know before you go

Very simple comfort: mattress on the floor, shared showers, electricity limited to the evening generator.
