Cairo's street sandwiches
Taameya, foul, potato and aubergine in baladi bread, for almost nothing.
€ BudgetOur favourite
The Egyptian sandwich is a dish in itself: taameya fried to order, foul dressed with oil, chips, aubergine, salad and tahini, all in half a loaf. It is breakfast and lunch for most of the country, and it is almost always vegan.
The extra bit
Ask for taameya "sokhna" — hot from the fryer: that is the whole difference.
Know before you go
A few pounds per sandwich: the cheapest meal in Egypt, and one of the best.
