Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah — pool day use

EGP 3,000 for the day — pool, sauna, hammam and gym included — and the hotel publishes the price itself, which is rare.

€€€ High end

The southern tip of Gezira Island, the Nile on both sides, an indoor pool and an outdoor one: this is the top of the range, and by a distance — more than twenty times the price of a club pool. What earns the address its place here, though, is not the luxury but the clarity. The hotel publishes its own day rate and the detail of what it covers, where the local press lists ten hotels without a single figure. You go in from ten in the morning until sunset, all week, subject to availability — a hotel houses its guests first, and the day is sold out of what is left.

The extra bit

Call or write before coming: the offer is sold "subject to availability", and a full hotel does not open its pool to day visitors. While you are at it, ask what closing time the house keeps by season — in winter sunset comes two hours earlier than in summer, and the price does not change with it.

Know before you go

Access is public, with no membership: EGP 3,000 per person, service and taxes included, all week, subject to availability. The price covers the pool, the sauna, the hammam, the gym and a locker. Booking goes through 02 2737 3737 or by email. The pools are mixed, as in any international hotel; no official page advertises a women-only session or any particular dress rule — if either matters to you, have it confirmed when booking rather than assumed. No nationality restriction is mentioned, unlike many coupon-sold offers. The rate is the one the hotel published at the time of writing: it carries no expiry date, which does not make it permanent.
