The Grill is the French restaurant of the Semiramis hotel, on the Nile Corniche in Garden City: hotel service, a European menu, a bill to match. Worth knowing when you have been in Cairo ten days and cannot face another plate of rice and lentils, or when you have to take someone to dinner and want it to go well. It is not a place of discovery: French cooking in Cairo is hotel cooking, sound and unsurprising. Garden City backs onto Downtown, which settles the question of getting home late.
The extra bit
The name holds both a dining room and a lounge, and they are not for the same evening. To talk, ask for the dining room; for a drink afterwards, the lounge. Say which when you book, or it is decided for you.
Know before you go
A hotel switchboard answers before the restaurant does: go through reception and ask for The Grill by name, or you will be booked into one of the hotel's other rooms. And a hotel restaurant like this is worth booking, especially at the weekend.
