The taverns of central Alexandria

The city's last Greek and Italian bars, within three streets of each other.

Budget

Around Saad Zaghloul square survives a handful of taverns inherited from the Mediterranean communities: narrow rooms, formica tables, local beer and small seafood plates. They are closing one by one, and now is the time to see them.

The extra bit

Do two or three in an evening: they are five minutes' walk from each other.

Know before you go
