El Gouna was designed in one go in the 1990s, with a pedestrian centre where Egyptian designers' shops have settled: linen, basketry, ceramics, jewellery. Prices are high for the country, and the quality follows.

El Gouna is a private enclave: prices and mood have nothing to do with Hurghada, twenty kilometres away.
