Marsa Matrouh and Siwa · Siwa
The cafés of Siwa square
Morning tea under the palms, at the foot of the Shali fortress.
€ Budget
Siwa's central square is a crossroads of bicycles, carts and café tables, overlooked by the mud ruins of Shali. You take tea there on waking before heading to the springs or the desert, and come back in the evening when the temperature drops.
The extra bit
Hire a bicycle on the square: that is how Siwa is visited, and the distances between springs are too long on foot.
Know before you go
Siwa is a conservative oasis: cover up, and alcohol is not sold there.
