The Damietta corniche
The Nile a few kilometres from its mouth, lined with cafés and boatyards.
€ Budget
Damietta faces the river and lives off wood: its quays line up cabinetmaking workshops, warehouses and cafés where tea is taken facing fishing feluccas. The town is prosperous, clean and almost never visited.
The extra bit
Walk the corniche in late afternoon, then push on to Ras el-Bar for sunset.
Know before you go
Few hotels in town: most visitors sleep at Ras el-Bar or leave in the evening.
