The Delta and the north coast · Mansoura

Ibn Luqman's house

The house where Saint Louis was imprisoned after the Seventh Crusade's defeat.

BudgetOff the beaten track

In 1250 the king of France, captured at Mansoura, was locked in this house before being ransomed. It has become a small museum telling the battle and the town, one of the few places in Egypt where European history is read on the spot.

The extra bit

Combine with a walk along Mansoura's Nile corniche, one of the Delta's most pleasant.

Know before you go

A modest museum, labels mostly in Arabic: a guide or some reading beforehand helps a lot.
