Hurghada · Off Hurghada

Eden Island

An island beach where the reef starts a few metres out — the snorkelling is better than the setting.

€€ Mid-range

Another island day out of Hurghada, aimed at the water rather than the beach: the coral is close, dense and busy from the surface. The formula is the usual one — crossing, loungers, lunch — but what you come for fits in a mask and a snorkel.

The extra bit

Water shoes change the day: you enter over dead, sharp coral, and they are rarely for hire on site.

Know before you go

The reef is just below the surface at low tide: swim flat, never a foot or a fin on the coral. Mineral sunscreen if possible — chemical filters damage what you came to look at.

    Our favourite

The harbour promenade: yachts on one side, terraces on the other, and the whole town out after dark.
