Four Seasons San Stefano — pool day passes

The one hotel in Alexandria that publishes, in black and white, the price of a day at the pool with no room booked.

€€€ High end

The hotel occupies the San Stefano tower on the Corniche, and it sells access to its pools to people who are not sleeping there — which in Alexandria is close to an exception. There are two pools and they are not alike: an indoor one, advertised as open all year, and an infinity pool on the fourth floor facing the Mediterranean, which opens only in the warm season. The beach is paid for separately, so you can pay for the water alone: that is what makes this a pool address and not a private beach. The prices are those of an international hotel — 1,250 EGP on weekdays and 1,500 EGP at the weekend for the indoor pool, 2,200 and 2,600 EGP for the one upstairs — with half price for children aged 4 to 11 and free entry under 4. An all-access pass puts the beach and both pools together in summer, at 2,900 EGP on weekdays and 4,000 EGP at the weekend.

The extra bit

Telephone before coming: the official page gives the prices but not the pool hours, and the hotel itself warns that its rates may change without notice. Ask about the fourth-floor pool, which closes out of season, and have them confirm what the pass covers before you pay for the whole family.

Know before you go

Access is open to the public by the day: you buy a pass, you do not need to be a hotel guest. It is an international hotel pool, mixed, in swimwear — the official pass page announces no women-only session, and none should be expected. Children aged 4 to 11 pay half, under-4s go free. The prices quoted are those the hotel displays, and it reserves the right to change them without notice: have them repeated on the phone. The indoor pool is advertised as open all year; the fourth-floor pool and the all-access pass are seasonal. The opening hours are published nowhere: that is the question to ask when you call.
