Dunes as far as the eye can see west of Siwa, up to the Libyan border.

One of the world's largest sand seas begins at Siwa's edge: sand waves a hundred metres high, marine fossils surfacing between the dunes, and total silence. Trips run by 4×4 in late afternoon, with dune descents and sunset.

Ask for the stop at the salt lake and the Bir Wahed hot spring: they are on the same circuit.
Know before you go
A permit is required to go far west, and only licensed Siwa drivers can obtain it.
