The Delta and the north coast · Tanta

Tanta's grills

Kebab, kofta and pigeon in the Delta's liveliest town.

Budget

Tanta is a rail crossroads and a pilgrimage town: its restaurants run all year and overflow during the mawlid. Grills are plentiful and cheap, served with bread straight from the oven next door.

The extra bit

Stuffed pigeon is the Delta's specialty: order it ahead, it takes time.

Know before you go

During the Sayyid al-Badawi mawlid the town is saturated: booking is useless, come early.
