Hurghada Grand Aquarium

The Red Sea without getting wet: an indoor circuit that fills a morning with children.

€€ Mid-range

A large aquarium paired with a small zoo, laid out in themed sections — reef, sharks, reptiles. It is the fallback plan on windy days when boats stay in, and a way to show the youngest what they will not see while snorkelling.

The extra bit

First thing at opening: the tanks are clean, the light is good, and hotel groups only arrive around midday.

Know before you go

Opinions on the condition of some animals are divided, and the guide says so rather than hiding it: if the subject matters to you, this visit is not compulsory — the same fauna can be seen alive and free with a mask, an hour away by boat.

The harbour promenade: yachts on one side, terraces on the other, and the whole town out after dark.
