Alexandria · Zizinia, Alexandria

The Royal Jewellery Museum

The jewels of Mohamed Ali's family, in a palace with extraordinary stained glass.

Budget

Tiaras, jewelled snuffboxes, watches and a collection that tells a century of Egyptian court life. The palace itself is worth the trip: its figurative stained glass, in bathrooms as in salons, has no equal in the country.

The extra bit

Do not miss the bathrooms: the stained glass there tells whole scenes.

Know before you go

Photography is often banned inside, and rooms close in rotation during restoration.
