The Delta and the north coast · Port Said

Port Said National Museum

From prehistory to the canal, Egypt told facing the Mediterranean.

Budget

A three-storey museum unrolling the country's whole chronology, with a room devoted to the canal's digging and the khedives. It is nearly empty on weekdays, and you come out onto the corniche, facing ships waiting for the convoy.

The extra bit

Go to the top floor for the canal room, then walk the corniche: the same story, inside and out.

Know before you go

Port Said is three hours from Cairo, two from Ismailia: a stop rather than a single destination.
