Marsa Matrouh and Siwa · New Alamein, Km 107 North Coastal Road
The pools at Rixos Premium Alamein
The only one on this coast to advertise indoor pools: you can still swim when the coast has shut.
At kilometre 107 of the North Coastal Road, at New Alamein — some hundred kilometres west of Alexandria, a hundred and eighty east of Marsa Matrouh. The group's official listing advertises a private sandy beach, an infinity pool, indoor and outdoor pools and a spa. It is the word "indoor" that earns this address its place here: on a coast that empties out between October and May, a covered pool is about the only place left to swim, and the hotel declares itself open all year. Note, though, that the page detailing the pools is not the page promising the year-round opening: the two claims come from two different official pages, and neither says which of those pools is running in January.
The extra bit
The covered pool is the whole argument: have it confirmed pool by pool before booking out of season. A hotel open all year does not guarantee that its pools are, and that is the kind of detail no page carries.
Know before you go
Access: hotel guests. Neither the brand's site nor the listing of the group that owns it publishes a day rate for the pools. Mixed bathing: the pools are mixed, in swimwear; no women-only slot is advertised on either official page we read. No hours are published for any pool, covered or not: that is the question to ask when booking, along with heating — an unheated indoor pool on the north coast in January is of no use at all.
