Port Said lives between two waters — the Mediterranean and Lake Manzala — and its cooking shows it: bass, mullet, prawns, and a fry-up famous across the country. Fish houses are many, family-run and cheap.

Ask for Lake Manzala fish rather than sea fish: it is the local specialty, and it does not travel.
