Aswan · Edfu

The tables of Edfu

Grills and koshari in a town the cruises pass through without stopping.

BudgetOff the beaten track

Between Luxor and Aswan, Edfu lives off the temple of Horus and off farming. Its cheap eateries serve lunch to locals for a few pounds, while tour groups climb back into their carriages without having seen the town.

The extra bit

After the temple, walk five minutes towards the market: prices there are the locals'.

Know before you go

Cash, cards rare, and few foreign-language menus: pointing works perfectly well.
