Siwa eats what it grows: olives and oil, dates in every form, vegetables, and bread baked in hot sand. Houses also serve oven chicken and mutton tagine on feast days.
The extra bit
Ask for sand-baked bread if the house still makes it: the specialty that is disappearing.

No alcohol in the oasis, and kitchens close early: dine before 9 pm.
