Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)
The world's largest archaeological museum, open since November 2025, two kilometres from the pyramids.
After two decades of construction, the GEM opened in full in November 2025: main galleries, grand staircase, monumental hall, royal mummies room, and — gathered in one place for the first time — the complete Tutankhamun treasure. The collection exceeds a hundred thousand pieces. The building itself, opening onto the plateau, deserves time of its own.
The extra bit
The café run by Egyptian roastery 30 North, inside the museum, is a genuine break — and one of the best cups in town, where you'd least expect it.
Know before you go
Timed-slot ticket, to be booked online: on-site sales have been discontinued. Foreign adult admission runs around EGP 1,450 (≈ $30), with a reduced rate for ages 6–25. Allow half a day, and don't stack it with the plateau the same morning.
