Giza · Giza plateau

The Grand Egyptian Museum in the evening

The world's most awaited museum, visited once the coaches have gone.

€€€ High end

The monumental staircase, the Tutankhamun galleries, and the glass wall framing the pyramids: the museum takes three hours at least, and the crowds thin late in the day. Evening slots, when open, give the same building without the queue — and the plateau lights up behind the glass.

The extra bit

Buy online and aim for the last slot: the light on the pyramids from the atrium is worth the shift on its own.
